There are three parameters that can help us to choose the suitable lamp: illuminance, color temperature and color rendering index.
It's a measurement of the amount of light that reaches an area of a surface. It is used to describe the brightness of light and its unit is Lux (= lumen per square meter)
It's not that lamp with bigger power has higher brightness as different lamps differ greatly in luminous efficiency. For example, LED light of 8W is as bright as the incandescent light of 40W.
The usual illuminance applicable to home lighting is: 100-200Lux for hallway and storeroom, 100-300Lux for living room, 100-200Lux for bedroom, 250-500Lux for working area, and 100-200Lux for dining room, kitchen and toilet.
It refers to the color of light. Color temperature is conventionally expressed in kelvins, using the symbol K.
As we think about which type of lighting to use in our home, we should consider how we can use color temperature to optimize our environment.

A color rendering index (CRI) is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.
CRI of sunlight is 100. CRI of outdoor lighting should be over 65 while CRI of indoor lighting should be over 80. Lamp with a high CRI can make colors more realistic while lamp with a low CRI will cause colors to distort and even aggravate eye strain.
Illuminance, color temperature and color rendering index influence each other. Under the appropriate illuminance, choose the lamp with proper color temperature and color rendering index, can we have a good sensual experience.
However, different people have different feelings towards light. And sometimes we may want to adjust the light brightness and color temperature according to our mood and needs. Therefore, lamp that is dimmable and CCT adjustable can better meet people‘s needs. For instance, if there are guest visits we will need higher brightness, but if we just want to watch TV with families after dinner, we may need warm and soft light to relax us and we may want to dim the light to save energy.
